Vacancy: Male Caregiver

Beit-ul-Aman, a frail care center for the frail and destitute elderly, situated in Wynberg, is looking at employing a male caregiver for their facility in
Wynberg. The core requirement is that the applicant should have done a
Home Based Care course and have completed the necessary practical hours.

JOB DESCRIPTION, FUNCTIONS, ROLES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES –
CAREGIVER
RESIDENTS PERSONAL HYGIENE
• Full wash/shower/bath daily
• Nail care (feet and fingers)
• Mouth care: brushing of teeth and denture care
• Eye, ear and nose care (trimming of unwanted hair. Cleaning of spectacles)
• Hair Care
 Washing and drying
 Beard care.
 Daily shaving
 Trimming of moustache and beard
 Clothing and shoes
 Neat, clean and whole clothes daily. NB – dress resident according to weather
• Report any clothing needs to sister in charge
NUTRITION (Food and Water)
• Correct positioning of resident
• Use of clean bibs every meal where necessary
• Feeding of helpless residents and assistance where needed (Cutting of food)
• Report poor appetite/nausea/poor fitting dentures, etc.
MOBILITY AND PRESSURE
• Promote movement and exercise of all residents
• Pressure care of patients who are at risk
• Diagnosis: know the diagnosis of every resident
ELIMINATION
• Regular 2 hourly toilet an pan rounds and when needed
• Correct use of incontinence (e.g. nappies, linen savers)
• Emptying of catheter bags. Renewal of bag according to internal policies
• Observe and report and abnormalities e.g. constipation or diarrhea
• Daily cleaning, and when, necessary of commodes, pans, urinals and sluice room.
LINEN AND INFECTION CONTROL
• Clean bedlinen on beds according to internal rules. Use only linen that is whole.
• Correct use of draw mac and draw sheets.
• Soiled linen in the correct container to sluice room for rinsing.
• Follow infection control procedures – use soiled and clean linen trolley. Wash hands
after working with each resident. Prevent cross infection by not sharing items e.g.
combs, razors, etc.
ADMINISTRATION AND REPORTING
• Be present at day/night report hand-over.
• Execute all instructions of care plan.
• Sign off all care actions carried out on daily care plan
• Report any abnormalities to Sister in charge/Senior e.g. discharges, rashes, wounds,
incidents, dandruff, etc.
RESOURCE MANAGEMENT AND SAFETY
• Adhere to all internal rules and protocols regarding safety e.g. restraining of residents,
management of falls, etc.
• Correct use of equipment e.g. wheelchairs, ear phones and electric razors.
• Report to Sister in charge/admin office/ maintenance department any faulty equipment.
• Implement emergency care i.e. first aid and evacuation plan when required.

• High level of service to residents and public e.g. helpful, friendly, patient (immediate
response to resident calls)
• Self-disciplined regarding time keeping, work attendance, acceptance of discipline and
